Why consider mediation?
Mediation is a private and confidential alternative to costly, distressing and public litigation.
Practical outcomes
Mediation helps parties focus on what matters, understand each side’s concerns and explore possible solutions.
Confidential process
Mediation is private and confidential, helping parties discuss issues in a more controlled environment.
Greater control
A mediator does not decide the dispute. The parties remain in control of whether, and how, an agreement is reached.
How the process works
The steps below reflect the usual pathway, which can be tailored as convenient.
Book a free consultation
A party books a confidential, free consultation. We explain how mediation works and answer questions.
Free consultation offered to the other party
We offer the other party their own free consultation.
Each party books an intake session
Each party books their own confidential intake session, where we gather information on the dispute, assess whether mediation is suitable, and recommend its duration (half or full day).
Either party books the mediation
After the intake sessions, either party books the mediation and pays 50% of the mediation fee.
The other party pays the remaining 50%
The other party pays the remaining 50%. We then confirm the mediation booking.

Online mediation across Australia
Mediation does not need to happen in person. Sergio can also assist parties through online mediation.
Online mediation may be helpful where parties are located in different areas, need flexibility, or want to avoid unnecessary travel or interacting in person.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a lawyer to attend mediation?
No. Although parties may choose to obtain legal advice before, during or after the process, parties often attend mediation without lawyers. Sergio can explain the mediation process during the initial consultation, but he does not provide legal advice to the parties. This is how he maintains his independence.
Is mediation confidential?
Mediation is private and confidential, with rare exceptions, such as where parties mutually agree otherwise.
Can mediation be done online?
Yes. Online mediation is available, regardless of the parties’ respective locations.
What types of disputes can be resolved through mediation?
Mediation can help in many areas of civil dispute resolution, such as business and commercial matters, workplace relations, community and neighbourhood disputes, consumer matters, educational arrangements, healthcare, and other civil matters.
What happens if the other party does not agree to mediate?
Mediation can only occur if and when the other party is ready to mediate. During the free consultation, we will ask you whether the other party is ready. If you are not sure, we can contact them with your permission to explain how mediation works and ask whether they are ready to mediate.
Can I request mediation without a free consultation?
Yes. Whenever the parties are ready to proceed, they should each book their own private intake session, where Sergio will gather information on the dispute, assess whether mediation is suitable, and recommend its duration (half or full day).
How much does mediation cost?
Intake session: $350 per party (always online). Half-day mediation: $1,100 per party. Full-day mediation: $2,200 per party. For in-person mediation in Sydney and surrounding areas, an additional $100 to $200 per party applies. For in-person mediation in other areas, please contact us to obtain a quote for the additional fee.
Can parties split costs other than 50/50?
Yes, you just need to contact us for manual booking and payment. Sergio’s impartiality remains the same.
Do you provide family mediation?
No. Sergio does not provide Family Dispute Resolution or section 60I FDR certificates. However, he offers mediation for many other types of civil matters.
